Walks and Beaches
The area offers a paradise to artists and photographers with its abundance of natural beauty. The three miles of safe sandy beaches are ideally suited for families, swimming, surfing, and relaxed walks across the dunes.
A pathway from The Tregorran garden leads down to both Carbis Bay and Porth Kidney beaches and takes in breathtaking cliff-top walks around rocky inlets.
The European award winning St. Ives Bay with its quaint narrow cobbled streets, working harbour and clean sandy beaches is an easy walk from The Tregorran and boasts an abundance of family activities from fishing trips to the Tate Gallery.
St. Ives has a wide variety of excellently priced restaurants to cater for all tastes and budgets. Carbis Bay also offers a number of restaurants within walking distance. Seafood is the main cuisine on offer with the locally caught fresh fish a particular treat. Other cuisines available range from Chinese, Thai, Mexican and Indian - to Italian and more traditional English dishes. There are also a number of cafes and take-aways again offering a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks.
There are many walks and paths to be enjoyed in the immediate Carbis Bay and St. Ives area as well as slightly further afield. The South West Coast Path runs the entire length of Cornwall's coastline and no two sections of the path are ever quite the same.
Penwith, between St Ives and Penzance, offers some dramatic walks taking in ancient sites such as Men an Tol, the round standing stone with a hole in the centre. Passing through the hole is reputed to cure back ailments but those with back problems will almost certainly find it impossible to crawl through! The coast path south of St. Ives near St Just offers dramatic cliffs on one hand and wild moor land on the other. Even if you do not feel like walking, a drive along this section of road is strongly recommended.
Another popular walk involves crossing the causeway (at low tide) to St. Michael's Mount. This National Trust property is a wonderfully atmospheric and unique place to visit and the walk to the mount is an enjoyable part of that experience.
